For Dorthe Eisenhardt painting has been a lifelong passion that she has pursued for more than 30 years, often under difficult circumstances. She has exhibited her work consistently since 1988, has shown in numerous public art galleries as well as winning several awards, and in 2004 her work was chosen to be the Opening Exhibition for the City of Richmond's Centennial Celebration. In 1995 she created a series of paintings based on her experiences while working on the palliative program at one of the local hospitals. This was exhibited at the Arts Council Gallery of Vancouver in 1996 and was very well received.

She studied intensively at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver, B.C., from 1988 to 1995 and since then she has continued to increase her knowledge and skills through workshops in creative and innovative art making as well as computerskills and photography. Dorthe grew up surrounded by European art and has always had a passionate interest in expanding this knowledge to include international art through libraries, numerous art courses, and by seeking out museums and galleries wherever she has travelled in North America and Europe.

Dorthe's early years were spent in rural Denmark in close contact with the changing moods and seasons of a deciduous forest. It was part of her daily life and she was free to explore its flora and fauna through many hours spent playing and walking while watching and listening. She arrived in Canada in 1967, passed the Canadian exam for foreign trained physiotherapists in 1969, is a Canadian citizen and since then she has lived in Metro Vancouver where she has worked in several of the area's major hospitals while painting and raising her three children. She has been painting full time since 2001.

Dorthe works mainly with acrylics on canvas but also uses watercolour, charcoal, and pen and ink for drawings. Her paintings are in collections in Canada and Internationally.
